Excess of good mobs

So currently a lot of people have been noticing a lack of bad mobs on the server. I believe it's a plugin nerfing them either intentionally to reduce server lag or accidentally. Could be something else though, not sure.
It's just not normal that while only 15 people are online, I can happily chop down trees in a forest during night for 30 minutes while only encountering 2 skeletons...


Hope to a quick reply/solution.
- gogyst (while standing in a grassland biome during night chilling with nothing but cows and pigs)

Gog, I've noticed this too. It's kinda the opposite of 4 when you could find lots of mobs but no animals. If you could get around to fixing this (if it is a glitch), then please do. Thanks, piethingey

I've also noticed a significant lack of hostile mobs, even when in complete darkness in a massive cave I only encountered around 10 mobs

It is a major problem, having spent hours on a XP grinder it has zero mobs. The way the server is setup XP is a huge factor but at the moment it's close to impossible to get.
If it's mojang, bukkit or whoever fine we'll have to suck it up but if something has been done to nerf mob counts and spawners I think it should be removed.

Walkers: If you don't mind me asking, is your grinder incredibly high in the air? And if it isn't, have you reduced the possible spawning locations outside the grinder in a 128-block radius around it by torching the surrounding terrain and caves underground?

If you haven't, then the grinder would have to be absurdly large to yield any worthwhile output.

I'm not saying there isn't a problem with mob spawning in general...I don't know either way. I'm just thinking of things that might help and those two things were done around THP's grinder last map and it increased the speed by a large amount.

We have maximized mob spawning as much as possible it's not that it doesn't work well it's that it doesn't work at all.

If it's literally spawning 0 mobs then it might be a design problem.

I've run through forests on the map and mobs definitely do spawn. But I have no idea if they're spawning slower than they did on the V4 map or not.

I'm going to try and build a ghetto-fabulous spawner tonight and see if it does anything.

I've noticed fewer mobs spawning compared to what I would consider "normal". It may have to do with a throttling plugin to reduce lag. It may be a glitch with bukkit. It may also just be normal gameplay now and I never noticed it until recently.

This is the only mob limits on the main map and nether.
So this is either A) normal or B) something with minecraft or bukkit

I can tell it is not normal and is probably something with buckkit. I was playing on my custom server today with some friends and we found no lack of mobs. There were in some places up to 45 mobs per chunk.

As of right now, I am having very few if any mobs spawning, it appears that it was not fixed for me.

I believe this problem has returned, not sure if the mob cap was altered but my mob farm has dropped efficiency significantly and I can't find a single wither skelly anywhere.
